What to Expect During an Evacuation
If an emergency occurs, your building — and possibly neighboring residential buildings — may be activated for evacuation.
You can expect:
- Flashing lights and audible sirens
- Instructions from Housing staff and emergency personnel
- Direction to your designated emergency assembly area
All residents must evacuate immediately. Leave the building completely and do not reenter until a Housing staff member or emergency official gives permission.
What Residents Should Do During an Emergency
All residents living in student housing should:
- Know all entrances and exits for your residence hall or apartment
- Leave immediately and calmly at the first sound of a fire alarm
- Report to your designated evacuation location
- Check in with your RA or Housing professional staff for further instructions
Assisting Residents with Disabilities
If you live with someone who has a disability or special needs:
- Assist them in exiting the building safely, if possible
- If you need help, immediately notify an RA, professional staff member or emergency responder
We are committed to supporting all members of our community during an emergency.
Be Prepared
Keep essential items nearby at night in case you need to evacuate quickly:
- Flashlight
- Student ID
- Keys
- Shoes
- Weather-appropriate clothing
Being prepared helps you respond calmly and safely.
