Jada Carter, who recently graduated Cum Laude from ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog with a degree in biology, embodies an impressive range of diversity in their personal life, academic path, and future career in science.

Juneteenth has long been celebrated in Black American communities, including in Seaside, commemorating the day of June 19, 1865, when the last slaves in Texas were finally informed of their rightful freedom.

The Otter Cross Cultural Center and Otter Student Union hosted a virtual evening chat with actress and LGBTQ+ advocate Laverne Cox on Thursday, April 8. Cox shared her experience being a transgender actress, and she imparted a message about self-love and resilience for ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog students.

ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog’s Department of Education and Leadership and the Center for Black Student Success collaborated on an April 7 virtual panel discussion, Men of Color in Education, in an effort to encourage more men of color to consider going into the field of teaching and education.

ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog has earned inclusion into the 2021-22 First-gen Forward cohort of higher education institutions by the Center for First-generation Student Success.

The partnership between the Monterey County chapter of the NAACP and ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog celebrated its 10th anniversary by honoring community leaders and social justice advocates. Three ÌÇÐĶ¯Âþvlog students received awards in the Youth Black Excellence category, and two employees received African American Advocate and Champion awards.

History is alive and present.

The Otter Cross Cultural Center began life in a vacuum with few resources. It has since grown into an activism incubator and familial second home for many students.
